“The wrong thing to do would be to make something that is read as ‘this is how we slot into the dominant narrative’. A lot of exhibitions that have attempted to look at instances of conceptualism around the world lend themselves to that kind of reading. There's a shift in time as well, the lag that seems to be in place if you think about things that were happening in the rest of the world and took 20–30 years to get here.
