"Nature can be weaponised. In some places, certain varieties of plants are designated for use in public spaces not just to provide shade or greening, but also to facilitate surveillance. For example, some trees are chosen because they branch out above about two meters, ensuring that cameras are unobstructed, and that the plants cannot be used to hide from official view. Landscaping becomes not just about nature, but also about control."
