“In a way, the exhibition title is a bit tricky, because one is potentially locked into it as an idea, but it’s ultimately a starting point for an enquiry that becomes discursive. It harkens back to questions about the significance of Dada in contemporary art practice. It seems to continually return as a point of enquiry, as is evident among even more recent artworks that demonstrate an interest in it.”

Kathryn Smith and Roger van Wyk reflect on researching and curating Dada South? Experimentation, Radicalism and Resistance (2009–2010) at a colloquium in Cape Town with invited practitioners held in anticipation of the show.
