SILENCE=DEATH (back)
Founded at the Lesbian and Gay Community Services Centre in New York in 1987, ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) performed persistent acts of civil disobedience and nonviolent protest in response to the US government's continued dismissal of the growing number of deaths from HIV and AIDS. ACT UP has expanded worldwide and now cites an end to the AIDS epidemic in its vision.
