Chimurenga is a troupe which was essentially founded as the house band of the Africa Centre (London). They mix African music with poetry and traditional drama. Founded by Kwesi Owusu, Ahmed Sheikh and Wanjiku Kiarie, the line-up later included Toendepi 'Wala' Danga, Torera Mpedzisi, Vico Mensah, Merle Collins, Nii Noi Nortey, and Eduardo Pereira – thereby bringing together performers of Zimbabwean, Ghanaian, Grenadian, Senegalese and Uruguayan heritage.
